Your DAC Report Is Killing Your Career — Here's How to Fight Back

Big Rig NationApril 26, 2026

What Is a DAC Report?

A DAC report (now called a HireRight Employment Verification report) is the background check that most trucking companies run on drivers before hiring. It includes your employment history, accident records, drug and alcohol test results, and any termination reasons reported by previous carriers. A bad DAC report can make it nearly impossible to get hired — even if the information is wrong.

Why Carriers Use DAC Reports Against Drivers

Carriers can report almost anything to DAC with very little accountability. A driver who was terminated for complaining about safety violations might have "insubordination" on their DAC. A driver who left a carrier over a pay dispute might have "job abandonment." These reports are often inaccurate, retaliatory, or both — and they follow drivers for years.

Your Rights Under the FCRA

DAC reports are consumer reports under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). That means you have specific rights:

  • You are entitled to a free copy of your DAC report once every 12 months
  • You can dispute any information you believe is inaccurate or incomplete
  • HireRight must investigate your dispute within 30 days
  • If the information cannot be verified, it must be removed
  • You can add a 100-word statement to your report explaining your side

How to Get Your DAC Report

Go to HireRight.com and request your free employment data report. You will need to verify your identity. Once you have your report, review every entry carefully. Pay special attention to termination reasons, accident records, and any "failed to complete" entries.

How to Dispute Inaccurate Information

File your dispute in writing through HireRight's dispute process. Be specific: identify the exact entry, explain why it is inaccurate, and attach any supporting documentation (termination letters, pay stubs, accident reports). HireRight must contact the carrier that submitted the information and ask them to verify it. If they cannot verify it, it must be corrected or removed.

What to Do If the Carrier Refuses to Correct It

If a carrier submitted false or retaliatory information to your DAC report, you may have a claim under the FCRA. Document everything and submit your case to BigRigNation.com. We track patterns of carrier misconduct and build the public record that supports drivers in disputes like this.

The Big Rig Nation DAC Dispute Template
